An inviting and cozy battlestation desk setup for programming and casual gaming

Gregory is a young cybersecurity student based in Rhode Island. His computer station is complete and welcoming with a neat and minimalist character.
Dedicated to casual gaming, he presents a configuration able to satisfy even the most hardcore gamers.
In addition to your PC’s powerful graphics card, a brand new PS5 also finds space on your desk. Let’s chat with him.

To start, please tell us where you come from and how old you are.
My real is Gregory Spincken. I’m originally from Northern Jersey but I have recently moved to a coastal town in Rhode Island. Currently I am 21 years old and studying cyber security and networking at Roger Williams University.

What do you do with your computer?
I mostly use my system for casual gaming with friends and during the school year I use it to complete my many programming and other computer related assignments.

When did you start optimizing your workstation?
My older brother was the one who introduced me to the world of PC building and gaming. He helped me put together my first system in 2012 which I used to play games like Skyrim and CS:GO. Ever since then I have been continuing to update and upgrade my workstation.

What fundamental characteristics must a good battlestation have?
A good battlestation needs to balance a combination of clean minimalist visuals with practicality, personality and character still evident. Having my setup look inviting and “cozy” is what I think gives it its character.

What are the strengths of your workstation?
My favorite part of my workstation so far has been the desk I put together for it. I purchased an unfinished solid core door that needed to be sanded, stained and finished with a polyurethane protective coating. I spent days attempting to get a perfect finish as I wanted it to be shiny and reflective while still showing the natural grain of the wood. It is the perfect size for the space and is able to comfortably house my two monitors, PC and PS5 with room to spare.

Have you already thought about the next evolutions?
I believe that attempting to achieve one’s perfect gaming setup is nearly impossible as everytime I think I am getting close to perfection I see more that needs to be changed. I have recently gotten my hands on an RTX 3070 which I think suits my 1440p non competitive yet high refresh rate gaming. The next move as far as the computer will most likely be upgrading the bottlenecked and aged i7 7700k to something that better matches the 3070. When I make the eventual upgrade I will also make a switch to a smaller case most likely with an ITX motherboard. I am also in the process of finishing another room in my house that would give me a lot more room to really perfect my setup. With the added room I will be able to showcase a VR playspace incorporated into the battlestation.
