Ray-Ban in collaboration with Facebook has launched Ray-Ban Stories, its particular interpretation of smart glasses.
Even if Google Glass was probably one of the most sensational failures of the Mountain View company, it is not certain that the Ray-Ban Stories are too. Web users change habits and opinions very quickly and a decade in the world of technology is comparable to a geological era.
Furthermore, Facebook has always known how to whet the attention of its people. In fact, his glasses connect to the new Facebook View app, so you can easily and in real time share your point of view, your experiences and memories with friends and followers. It is also possible to save the contents in the gallery of your smartphone and from there, edit and share them on different social channels such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter or Tik-tok.
On a technical level, the glasses have a dual 5 megapixel camera that allows you to take photos and record videos without hands. Thanks to automatic light adjustment and stereoscopic photographic depth, you can save your best moments from a first-person perspective and create original high-quality content.
The open-ear speakers are discreetly positioned on the temples of the glasses while 3 integrated microphones capture sound in all directions to obtain a voice and audio quality at the highest levels for calls and videos. Using the touch controls, you can control the playback of music tracks or activate the cameras.
When the user records a video or takes a photo, the Ray-Ban Stories turn on a small white LED located on the right front of the frame of the glasses. This is a way to respect the privacy of others by notifying that the cameras are active.
Facebook has already clarified the issue of confidentiality by explaining that by default, Ray Ban Stories collect only the data necessary for optimal operation such as, for example, the battery status to notify when it is low, the e-mail address and the password for accessing Facebook, so as to verify the user’s identity when accessing the Facebook View app, and WiFi connectivity. As with other products and services, you can choose to share additional data useful for product development and improvement of the Facebook View app with Facebook for future software updates.
Currently there are three models available in different colors, all based on the most famous designs of the Ray-Ban brand: Round, Wayfarer and Meteor. The lenses, in addition to the sun one, are also available in a transparent variant with anti-blue light filter (useful for those who work on the PC) and with Transitions technology that vary in tone according to the amount of light. Included in the package, in addition to a USB-C cable, we find a practical case that also acts as a charging base.
